Testing Shows Up to 1.5% Improvement Over 15W-40, Thousands in Potential Savings

A new Chevron 10W-30 product specifically designed for low-emission diesel engines like those used in construction and medium-sized fleets could amount to thousands of dollars in annual savings thanks to improved fuel efficiency and maximized DPF life.

Testing of Chevron Delo® 400 SDE SAE 10W-30 has shown a 1% to 1.5% fuel savings when compared to 15W-40 varieties, which could signal a shift in how fleet owners approach what product they use.

“If you own class 6 or 8 trucks, then it would benefit you to calculate those potential savings across the board,” said SCL VP of Customer Solutions Dan Dziwanowski. “If you own 20 trucks, for example, that could be up to $8,000 in annual savings. That’s a lot of money when you’re talking re-allocating from fuel spend to savings.”

In addition to boosts in fuel efficiency, Chevron also states its proprietary ISOCLEAN® and ISOSYN® Advanced Technology:

• Minimizes operating costs through exceptional soot dispersancy and wear control. Cylinders, pistons, rings and valve train components are provided extra protection against wear and corrosion, resulting in optimal service life and maintenance schedules.

• Offers excellent emission control system life by emphasizing protection of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). This minimizes downtime and required cleaning, ultimately helping to decrease maintenance costs.

Through Oct. 31, 2020, new Chevron customers are eligible for $1 – $2 per gallon up to $1,500 per location through Chevron Switch & Save 2020 eligible product promotion.

Delo 400 SDE SAE 10W-30 is specifically formulated for low emission diesel engines with diesel particulate filters and burning Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel fuel, in which API CK-4 is recommended.

“That means any fleet with beverage trucks, buses, single-axle trucks, refrigerated vans or any construction company running cement trucks, dump trucks, fuel trucks, they all need to be re-evaluating what engine oil they’re using in their vehicles,” Dziwanowski said. “Otherwise they could be missing out on significant savings, and right now, any potential savings should be considered.”

According to Chevron, the product is ideal for “engines equipped with features like four-valve heads, super-charging, turbocharging, direct injection, shorter piston crowns, higher power density, intercooling, full electronic management of fuel and emissions systems, exhaust selective catalytic reduction, exhaust gas recirculation, and exhaust particulate filters.”

Delo 400 SDE SAE 10W-30 is available in bulk, 55-gallon drums and 5-gallon pails.
