SCL Supports Giving Hope NOLA - Where Love Changes Everything

SCL Gives Back to Giving Hope - New Orleans

Upholding the Philosophy That “To Whom Much is Given, Much is Required”

At SCL we pride ourselves on giving back to the community and to our fellow human beings whenever possible through yearly contributions to such humanitarian organizations as the Fuel Relief Fund and our most recent partnership - Giving Hope NOLA, a Louisiana-based nonprofit dedicated to the belief that “Love Changes Everything.”

Giving Hope NOLA - What They Do

The mission of this faith-based organization is simple: To walk in faith while promoting human dignity through the tireless efforts of a committed army of staff members, volunteers, corporate sponsors and board members. Through their boots-on-the-ground efforts, Giving Hope feeds, clothes and houses those in need within the New Orleans community and around the world, while providing fellowship and a strong sense of human connection. Founded by husband and wife Troy and Tracy Duhon in 2008, the creation of Giving Hope parallels their journey to becoming adoptive parents, when Tracy began assisting families that were struggling with the financial burden of adopting children from overseas. Through her recognition that, “Everyone needs a forever family” Tracy and and Troy created the Giving Hope organization, which is now in its 9th year.

Community and International Causes

The Food Pantry of New Orleans

Established in 2013 after Toyota of New Orleans opened its doors to the community as a soup kitchen, the Food Pantry of New Orleans has become a fundamental resource that provides nearly 200,000 hot meals and over 1.5 million pounds of groceries to low-income families and seniors each year. Says Chief Operations Officer for the Food Pantry, Ms. Betty, “In a city known for food, it is a shame that so many people are going hungry every day.” Within the city of New Orleans there are roughly 11,000 children who do not eat when they are not receiving free lunches in school. According to a Food Pantry volunteer, “Giving hope does more than just bring food… it creates community. They deliver 1,500 meals to our residents in one week… (and) if you bring that to a month, that’s 6,000 meals a month. If you take it to the year, that’s over 70,000 meals.”

The Hope House Outreach Program

In an effort to combat a lack of proper conditions and adequate schooling for children in orphanages around the world, the Hope House Outreach Program was established with a goal of building safe and loving orphanages on every livable continent around the world. Since its inception, the Hope House Outreach Program has created orphanages in India, Honduras, Gambia, and a fourth currently under construction in Russia. Hope House mission trips connect volunteers with children in need, bringing them love and a sense of purpose. These trips are life-changing for all involved, following the belief that “love changes everything.”

The Corporate Hope Day Program

Through the Corporate Hope Day Program, local and national corporations are invited to volunteer at the Food Pantry of New Orleans, connecting with fellow community members and enjoying the experience of being of service as a group or organization. By preparing ad serving food, Corporate Hope groups have the opportunity to interact with families, children and seniors in need of love, kindness and support. There is nothing better than giving back in this way, and through this experience, businesses and corporations practice team building and contribution that lasts a lifetime.

The Hope Against Trafficking Everywhere Program

In 2016, Giving Hope launched Hope Against Trafficking Everywhere (HATE) to raise awareness around the dangers of human trafficking. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purpose of forced labour or commercial sexual exploitation. It is a form of modern day slavery that exists not only in developing countries, but right here in our own backyard where young boys, girls, men and women are sold for the purpose of forced sexual conduct or labour. Human trafficking is a grave human rights violation, and according to the Polaris Project, “denies freedom to 20.9 million people around the world.” Hope Against Trafficking Everywhere (HATE) was created to put an end to this form of modern day slavery, believing that all people deserve to be free.
